Cookhill is a small, quiet and beautiful village on the border of Worcestershire and Warwickshire on the A441 Redditch to Evesham road, about 12 miles from Stratford on Avon, 8 miles from Evesham, 5 miles from Redditch and 3 miles from Alcester. Local visitor attractions, in addition to Stratford on Avon with its Royal Shakespeare Theatre, include Ragley Hall and Coughton Court.
The Cookhill Keyboard Club, formed in 1994 due largely to the foresight, initiative and enthusiasm of one man, Ernest Huggins, is quite unlike most organ and keyboard societies in that it does not run a monthly programme of concerts by touring professional organists. Rather, the Club is a forum for anyone interested in keyboard or organ music whether as a player or a listener. it is very much a 'hands-on' club, giving all members the opportunity to play whether they are advanced players and confident or beginners and more diffident.
The Music Coordinator organises opportunities for intermediate and more advanced ensembles. At each meeting, time is allocated for more able players to entertain and a short concert at the end of the evening by one of the members or an external guest provides a fitting climax to an excellent social and musical evening. The Club also provides opportunities for members of all levels to join a 'Background Music Group' which plays during the first half-hour whilst members and guests arrive.
The Club also organises three Professional Celebrity Concerts in March, July and November of each year, given by leading UK and International organists, with the latter entitled "The Ernie Huggins Memorial Concert" in honour.of the Club's Founder who passed away in August 2005.
The Club is very proud to have a local leading performer, David Ingley, as its Patron giving us access to hisr valuable experience, advice and guidance in development of the Club.
A friendly welcome is assured for anyone, player or listener, wishing to join or visit the Club.
The club usually meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm
Subscription: £5.00 Members admission: £1.50 Visitors admission: £2.50
