Hello, thank you and welcome to our 'brand new' website !. Our club was formed more than thirty years ago and was named 'The Broadway Organ Society'. It provided concerts to a membership of about 200, and until 2017 was run by just two chairmen.late In 2017 the long standing committee were unfortunately having health issues and although they carried on throughout these problems eventually they were unable to continue and it was announced that the club would have its last concert in December 2017. Byron Jones (who played at the clubs first concert all those years ago, would also be playing at the final one!.)
As you can imagine, the membership were shocked at the news, and after a short while members of the 'new' committee met with chairman Ron Cole and his wife Eve to discuss a possible plan of forming a new club with Ron remaining as Chairman. and with great enthusiasm from everyone things started to brighten up.
Organfax, and the artistes that we have been able to work with have been of tremendous help offering advice and practical help to keep us in operation, and our sincere thanks go out to them.
One of our problems was identity and location, not to our regular faithfull membership, but for visitors from all over the U.K. We are of course fortunately in one of the loveliest part of our great country, and is the choice of a host of holiday makers.
So with the help of our friends in the organ & keyboard world are bringing ourselves up to date, firstly was a name change which we hope will create interest from the younger people, so 'PLYMOUTH BROADWAY ORGAN & KEYBOARD CLUB' has survived for two years and have 2020 all booked with entries arriving for 2021!
Next year 2020, Our city will be hosting the 'Mayflower 400' celebrations. For those who are not familiar with the history, four hundred years ago a small ship sailed from Plymouth on a journey to set up a homeland in America. It is anticpated and hoped that we will have a great influx of American visitors by air & sea to visit the place where their ancestors started their epic journey..
Because the journey to our part of the world presents some artistes with a travel problem, we have formed an association with Bideford Organ & Keyboard Club, and where possible arrange 'back to back' concerts, saving the clubs on fee's and the artistes on travel, and bearing in mind the beauty of being in the Westcountry a number of our guest players arrange to stay here for a mini holiday.
So thank you for visiting our new Organfax Website which I hope you found of interest, and should you have any questions concerning any of the things mentioned, then please contact me and I will endeavour to help.
IMPORTANT! In view of the Pandemic currently affecting the world as we know it, we have been forced to cease our concerts with immediate effect.
The situation is devastating and affects each & everyone, we are watching each government broadcast hoping for some positive news.
In the meatime our committee will be working on how we can develope a contingency plan in readiness for the future.
As information become available we will post it on this OGANFAX WEBSITE
My best wishes to alll, Henry (Hon Sec)
