Formed in September 1988, the Basildon Keyboard Club has had its ups, downs, changes of venue and committee but is still going strong with an increasing membership. The BKC is a concert club, and every month we hold a concert featuring a professional organ or keyboard artiste. Over the years most of the top UK and quite a few European organ and keyboard artistes have played for Basildon.
The club is run by a small bunch of volunteers headed by a committee. Any profit made by the club is re-invested into the club. Each year we hold a general meeting when the club's financial report is presented to members. We like to think we are a friendly club, many members wear club badges with their first name and details of the instrument they play - if they play one. Guests are always made to feel welcome.
Our venue is James Hornsby High School. The School was recently refurbished at significant cost and now has a superb hall with excellent acoustics and a very nice stage. We use our own lighting system, backed up by the special lighting effects of "Supreme Lighting" and have our own mirror - we like to think we put on a professional show.
Our team of 'Welcome Players' provide music from 7.30 pm until the main show. Our concerts feature a wide spectrum of players and instruments, and then there is the free tea or coffee plus biscuits during the interval.
Our 'Welcome players' also put on regular charity concerts and provide music at local events, just our way of putting some music into the community. As well as our monthly concerts, the club runs regular charity nights when members play, and once again we try to create a true concert experience.
The committee try to keep costs as low as possible while maintaining the highest standards of presentation. To help in this we run a fun raffle and a recycled music stall. The music stall is a bring and buy stall, and members bring in unused musical items, anyone taking something from the stall puts a donation in the tin.
Our facilities for the disabled are limited, access to the hall is good but toilet facilities are not easy. If you have special requirements, please let us know in advance - we try to help everyone enjoy the evening.
The club usually meets on the first Saturday of the month at 8pm
