Town Square

Barnstaple sits astride the River Taw in North Devon and is at the heart of a delightful holiday and tourist area, with stunning scenery both coastal and country close by.  The Town itself dates back to the 10th century and is reputed to be one of the oldest boroughs in the land.

Now in it's 45th year- The Barnstaple Organ & Keyboard Club now in its 44th year, having been formed in 1963.  Like many clubs, it has had mixed fortunes and changed venues many times, but currently with it's home " in the Roundswell Community Centre close by the Sainsburys complex, it is enjoying a very supportive membership enabling top national artistes to be engaged to entertain.

Back in 1963 when "Hammond" first introduced their home organs to these shores the proprietor of a local music shop in Barnstaple - a Mr H.W.Whiting of Nicklins Music Shop (now  no longer in existence) took the initiative by starting the "Barnstaple Hammond Organ Society".   The Club like many others,   has  had mixed fortunes, and changed names and venues many times.  The current name came into being back in the eighties and can boast a strong membership enabling it to attract top national artistes to be engaged to entertain.   During the early years the Club's President was Armsbee Bancroft, but upon his passing,  Paul Roberts kindly accepted the Club's invitation to become President and very supportive he is too.  Indeed our 40th Anniversary Concert was held on Thursday 2nd October 2003 at Christ Church, Bear Street and featured Paul Roberts in his distinctive style.

Barnstaple & North Devon attracts many visitors at all times of year - if you are one of these, why not check out our programme and pay us a visit.

We can assure you a warm welcome awaits!
