Born in Luton, Bedfordshire, Robert fell in love with popular organ music on a family holiday to Blackpool when he was in his teens. Having fallen in love with the sound of the Wurlitzer in the Tower, it is fair to say that any ambitions he had of playing that particular organ on a regular basis were quickly realised when as a mere 16 year old, Robert became the youngest ever player to join the team of Resident Organists in the Tower Ballroom.
