About Norman

I was born in Wrexham, North Wales and, after early piano lessons, I had organ lessons in my 'teens and became a church organist. Then, in 1959 I had my first encounter with the cinema organ when I started as Minors' Organist at the ABC Regal, Chester. This lasted until 1967 when ABC took their organs off the maintenance list and subsequently sold them. During the early '60s I had further tuition from Charles Smitton.

My first broadcast was in February 1969 from the Plaza, Birkenhead as the week's guest organist on Sam Costa's Lunchtime programme on B.B.C. Radio Two. It is fifty years since I first started as organist/ musical director at the Floral Pavilion Theatre, New Brighton, Merseyside where I have accompanied several well-known stars, who include - Vince Hill, Dick Emery, Nat Gonella, Ken Platt, Hylda Baker, Frank Carson, Frankie Howerd, Adelaide Hall, Bob Monkhouse, John Hanson, Clinton Ford, Al Read, Tommy Trinder, Sandy Powell, Percy Edwards, Lester Furguson, Cavan O'Connor, Ruby Murray, Bert Weedon, Tom O'Connor, Chic Murray, Ben Warriss, Roy Walker, Bernard Manning, Billy Dainty, Walter Landaur, Stan Boardman, Ken Goodwin, Pearl Carr & Teddy Johnson, Ray Allan & Lord Charles, Reg [Confidentially] Dixon, Terry Hall & Lenny the Lion
