The Society which was originally known as the Sutton and District Organ Society was formed in 1970 by a group of enthusiasts when the electronic organ was a very popular instrument. It was in 2013 when the Society became known as the 'Sutton in Ashfield Electronic Organ Society' and then, more recenty, as 'Ashfield Keyboard Concerts'.
By comparison to the pianoforte it was thought to be easier to get a melody and an acceptable sound from the organ.
The modern electronic keyboard is very complicated, costing from a few hundred to thousands of pounds. A good knowledge of music is needed to play the intrument to its full potential.
There are many professional players on the circuit and we, as a society, engage professionals to play at our Concerts. Their instruments are usually top of the range and they have their own stye of playing and entertaining. The music ranges from popular to classical to suit all tastes, in fact it is "Music For All"
The Society produces annual programmes of Concerts and it has to be appreciated that the booking of artistes is undertaken at least a year in advance, the current bookings are shown below.
Concerts are held at 7.00pm on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. Doors are open at 6.15 pm and you are very welcome to come along and see what we are all about, hopefully you will like what you see and hear and become a member, as new members are always welcome
Annual Membership is from 1st January to 31st December, but you can join at any time. Currently annual Membership is £5.00 and then Concerts fees are £7.00 for Members and £10.00 for Non-Members, so as you can see, it pays to become a member!
