As mentioned on the ORGANfax News Page, Stanley King sadly passed away on 7th March 2005. This page is being left here for a while as a tribute to a musician who will be remembered by his many friends in the UK. |

International concert and recording organist Stanley King hails originally from Bushey, Hertfordshire. |
|
|
|
After the usual early piano studies, he started organ lessons at the age of ten and after leaving school, continued formal musical education in London. In addition to the organ, he also studied harpsichord, orchestra and Theatre Organ lessons with Charles Smart and Henry Croudson. It was while serving in the Royal Air Force in Singapore that he was introduced to the Hammond Organ and was lucky enough to find a playing job in Raffles Hotel! Upon demob from the RAF, Stan took a position as church organist and choirmaster for a few years, and then decided to make the entertainment business a career. His very first engagement was playing at Harringay Arena for ice skating. Then followed various summer seasons and pantomimes, night club work in London and Theatre |

For seven years Stan was
resident organist at the Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone, playing daily
organ concerts and providing the dance bands for the various civic
functions. Following that, he was resident organist at the Forum Cinema
in Jersey, Channel Islands before joining the Hammond Organ Company as a
promotional artist. |

His work these days is centred in Canada and the USA with concert tours in England. Stanley King's organ styles range from jazz, big band, classical to popular and show tunes, thus making him pleasing to every audience. |
