Robert New started his musical journey at the age of 11, when he took up playing the keyboard. Shortly after several keyboard lessons, Robert progressed onto the organ and never looked back.
“My very first organ was a Yamaha C-35 reed type organ... very old, it sounded very old, but it had two manuals and a pedal board. I had a Kawai Keyboard which had modern sounds and rhythms, which was ok for me. Also, I was very aware that a new organ was very expensive, so I would have to work hard to be able to have a new one over the next year or so”.
Over the next few years, Robert excelled musically and eventually his parents bought him his first brand new organ, the Orla Roma. Robert quickly out-grew this instrument and it wasn’t long before he had his sights on a much more expensive calibre of organ.... the WERSI.
At the age of 16, he brought his very first organ, the WERSI Spectra CD700. “After seeing Claudia Hirschfeld perform on the Spectra, I wanted one. As soon as I was old enough to work part-time, I saved enough money to buy my first WERSI organ”.
At the same time, Robert started college in Portsmouth and left with two A-levels in Pre-professional Classical Music. After this, he was fortunate enough to work for WERSI, performing at Leicester Square and several organ festivals, demonstrating the latest OAS instruments.
In 2002, Robert finally bought his much loved brand new WERSI OAS instrument: The Abacus KS-1. “I was totally thrilled to be able to buy my own WERSI instrument at the age of 18. Over the years, this instrument has expanded and been updated beyond my wildest musical dreams... it’s a one stop shop for the music I want to produce and play”.
Robert was now touring all over the UK, being driven by his dad to organ clubs and this continued for several years until he decided to enroll at Brighton University to study Music Production at degree level. During his 3 years at Brighton University, Robert became a bit of an expert in the recording studio. Shortly after leaving Brighton university, he signed a song-writing / music publishing deal with Sony-BMG & Warner Bros.
Other achievements over the past 5 years include whirwind international tours with both bands ‘Fridays Child’ and ‘Music Inferno’. This has given Robert the opportunity to perform at some amazing venues from the Spinaker Tower in Portsmouth to the Osaka Dome in Japan.
Roberts latest projects have seen him take the helm of the ESSENSE project and a planned return to the organ world with a new CD and tour as well as a small project for a film sound track.
