Michael Farrar

Michael was born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.  He was influenced at the age of 9 and he found a true passion for music when he heard musicians such as Jerry Allen, Harry Stoneham (Michael had the pleasure of playing a duet with Harry when he was 11 years old - what an experience that was!) and Reginald Dixon, amongst others.  Michael was also inspired by the wonderful sound of the Big Band and the colour and drama of classical and orchestral music.  That was to be the beginning of a long musical career when he first started organ lessons, playing classical pipe organs.

Michael with Billy Pearce

In 1986, Michael achieved a Gold Award for his work demonstrating Yamaha keyboard products.  For over 25 years as a professional and semi-professional organist/keyboard player, Michael has worked in many cabaret and theatre venues around Europe and the UK as Musical Director for Billy Pearce and has worked with artistes such as Ken Dodd, Joe Longthorne, Jane McDonald and The Three Degrees.

Michael's years of working as an accompanist has enabled him to acquire a real feel for many styles of music, which he always aims to include in his concert programme, as well as being keen to add new pieces and arrangements along the way.  This helps to give a wide variety of music to audiences and within that, he also strives to include pieces that have not been extensively played by others.  His sound is quite different and he has a unique sense of creativity and vision, which can be heard in his musical arrangements using many of his own combinations of registrations such as orchestral, theatre organ styles, classical organ, Big Band, jazz, popular marches and piano.  His music has also been broadcast on radio, with broadcasts planned in the future

.Michael's setup, which includes Yamaha HS8 organ, Yamaha PSR9000, PSR3000 and Roland Fantom S keyboards

In Michael's solo concert performances, he uses an impressive combination of Yamaha HX1 organ, Yamaha PSR9000 and Yamaha PSR3000, including a full PA system, to enable him to play a wide variety of music from classical, to standards and popular music.  He has a very informal approach to his concerts and has a good rapport with audiences.  Michael offers a very different kind of concert playing and it is evident in his concert work that his real love for music shines through.
