Michael has had a lifelong career as a pianist, organist, composer and arranger. He accepted his first regular organist post aged ten, (after starting off at the age of a nine on his church’s harmonium) and it took a little while for his feet to reach the pedals, but they got there – and haven't stopped since.
He now devotes much of his time to theatre organ, playing the music that he has always loved. Joyce Alldred, his mentor since 2005, has encouraged him to develop his own individual style whilst still drawing inspiration from great performers of the past.
Michael works hard to expand his repertoire which now includes music from Victorian times to the present day. Drawing on his experience as an arranger and composer, he enjoys the challenge of breathing new life into old melodies to entertain established audiences and introducing more modern material to reach out to new ones. Michael is very optimistic about the ability of the theatre organ to fascinate and entertain audiences of tomorrow.
He is also as passionate about the technical heritage of theatre organs as feats of engineering and is also greatly impressed with the dedication and commitment of those who enthusiastically restore and maintain these wonderful instruments.
To find out more about Michael Baron, view his concert diary and keep up-to-date with news and, of course, see him in action at the console, visit his website: www.theatreorganist.co.uk. Michael is always delighted to hear from fellow organists, venues and societies or anyone who shares a love of the theatre organ.
