About John

During a visit to Blackpool Tower at the age of eleven, John became interested in and enthusiastic about organ music, and was given tuition by a local organist. He was a church organist at the age of thirteen and also at this time played on occasions at the Majestic Cinema, Cradley Heath on its Christie Pipe organ. In 1989 John became one of the resident organists at the Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham, playing an electronic organ alongside the Wurlitzer for the popular Saturday Party Nights. Wurlitzer Wonderland Volumes 1 and 2 were recorded here, featuring John with Keith Tomlin at the Wurlitzer.

John has played for various theatre and electronic organ societies around the country including the Channel Islands, and more recently has played for the Cinema Organ Society and twice for the Theatre Organ Club at Burton on Trent Town Hall. He also makes appearances on both Wurlitzer and electronic organs at the Tower Ballroom Blackpool. John has broadcast on a couple of occasions for BBC Radio, Shropshire, live, on the Wurlitzer at the Buttermarket, Shrewsbury.

Whilst John plays mainly theatre organ, he is equally at home on electronic, and frequently plays for dancing. His own musical tastes vary from light classics, musicals through to Beatles and Abba. Influences in the organ scene include Reginald Dixon, Sidney Torch and current players such as Phil Kelsall and Chris Powell.

John has recently been appointed Honorary Organist to the Shropshire Theatre Organ Trust.
