Stan Gande, founder member and former treasurer of the Association of Organ Enthusiasts, passed peacefully away on Friday 14th March.
Stan was a very active sportsman, took up boxing as a young man and was a keen swimmer who devoted a great deal of time encouraging and teaching others to swim.
His whole working career was spent with the Civil Service (with the exception of a break for service in the Royal Navy), rising from entrance as a telegraph boy, where he met his wife Joan, to a senior clerical position with the Home Office.
Stan and Joan became interested in the organ world in the early eighties after being on the same flight and at the same hotel in Spain as a group of organ enthusiasts and were soon recruited to take an active role in the event. They were founder members of the A.O.E. on its formation in 1986 and this coincided with Stan’s retirement from the Civil Service and he took up the role of Treasurer, a position he held until ill health forced him to step down in 2009. Although lack of mobility and declining health prevented him from attending events in recent years, he has always been with us in spirit and kept his eagle eye on the finances.
Anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing Stan will remember him as a kind, caring, generous and fair man who always gave his all and he will by sadly missed.
The funeral will take place at Huddersfield Crematorium, Fixby Road, Huddersfield, HD2 2JF, on Tuesday 25th March at 2.00pm.
Our thoughts are with Joan and their children Clive, Craig, Elaine and Susan and their families at this sad time.
Chairman - The Association of Organ Enthusiasts
