UK Young Theatre Organist of the Year Competition

Posted: Tuesday 21st January

Back in 1978 the London Chapter of ATOS set in motion the Young Theatre Organist of the Year Competition, which over the years has given valuable performing and social experience to many aspiring organists. Some, including Janet Dowsett, Martin Harris, Michael Wooldridge, Nicholas Martin and OrganFax's own Ian House are now well known to us all, but there are many more who have enjoyed and benefited hugely from the experience. A full list of past winners can be found here.

This year the event, featuring attractive financial prizes and support for all entrants, will be held in the Midlands, at Fentham Hall near Solihull, as it is felt that this will be a more central area for the majority of young entrants to reach.

Sunday July 27th is the chosen date but, before all that, those adults wishing to encourage any youngster (aged 18 or under at the end of August) should apply to Michael Wooldridge, who has taken on the role of co-ordinator for this ATOS event, so contact him for further information. ATOS’’s Hon Treasurer, Keith Reeve, is the committee member dedicated to work with Michael on this important project, so he can also be contacted for further details. Entry forms can be downloaded from http://www.atos-london.co.uk/young-theatre-organist-of-the-year

Following the success of his successful teaching programme at Rye College, Michael is keen to draw youngsters together from all around the country for the start of what it is hoped will be the making of life long musical friendships, just as it was for him when he won it back in 1980!
