The Rye Wurlitzer Academy had to put up the House Full signs at their latest fund raising event held at the Milligan Theatre, Rye. The evening featured top tribute band The Fabulous Shadows, who recreate all of the Shadows’ big hits in their show, including Apache, Wonderful Land and the Guitar Tango.
The band had said they would like to lend their support to RWA's unique organ tuition scheme as soon as they heard of it through their keyboard player, organist Michael Wooldridge, who provides all of the musical string and brass parts that were played by the Norrie Paramor Orchestra for the original Shadows recordings.
The full house for the ‘Supper with the Shadows’ evening, for which our team of parents went to town providing a wonderful ploughman’s supper with home made deserts, was a huge success and after all costs raised just under £1,000 for the RWA. The band were fascinated to see the Wurlitzer Organ and have promised they will do another fund raising show in early 2015 and that next time they hope to actually feature the Wurlitzer playing with the band.
The next fund raising event is at 7.30pm on Tuesday 26th November at The Milligan Theatre, Rye College, when Michael Wooldridge and the academies students take to the stage for an evening of Christmas music and more. Tickets and information from Richard on 01424 444 058.
