News has been received from the new owner of Shrewsburys Buttermarket that the three manual 12 rank [ex-Ritz cinema Chatham Wurlitzer] will be allowed to remain in the venue. In the not to distant future, it could be this year, the Shropshire Theatre Organ Trust hope to start to run monthly organ concerts again.
The Trust [who own the organ] have been running concerts since it was installed in the building in 1988 up to 2010 when the building was closed after being placed into administration. Since then the property has been sold on and a £1 million re-furbishment started, not only to the exterior but also inside part of which the Cellars. Work is currently taking place on the second ground floor where the Wurlitzer is installed the work should be complete in September with a totally different interior and new heating & ventilation system. If all goes to plan & the organ will be tested after which concerts will resume hopefully before the end of this year.
