East Sussex National Hotel & Resort proudly presents on Sunday, 22nd January at 3pm an afternoon with Carlo Curley – The Pavarotti of the Organ.
Celebrating his 40th year of performing in the United Kingdom…This is the re-inaugural of Mr Curley’s 4-manual, 100-stop Allen touring Organ brought to England in 1975 for a historic series of concerts in the Great Hall of London’s Alexandra Palace and featured in The Press on numerous commercial recordings and on BBC Television and Radio…The instrument has recently been completely overhauled and modernised and this will be the premier performance on this unique, internationally acclaimed medium. The famous touring organ now permanently at home at East Sussex National Hotel & Resort.
Mr Curley enjoyed advanced tuition with Virgil Fox, Robert Elmore, George Thalben-Ball and coached privately with Arthur Poister. He also was influenced greatly by long-time friend and confidant, Robert Noehren, for whom he often played. Noehren was full of praise for Curley’s talent and once wrote to a colleague in the early 1980s that “Curley could easily become the new Anton Heiller”. Curley is the first classical organist to perform a solo organ recital at the White House, and he has also played
before several European heads of state.
Curley uses a substantial Allen touring organ and the venue where this instrument is held is of sufficient scope to support his repertoire.
Mr Curley will perform a highly eclectic, colourful programme of well known transcriptions, arrangements and original compositions by Dvorak, Handal, Sousa, Bach, Massenet, Widor and others….
Tickets are £10 for general seating and are available by calling 01825 880088 or email.
