Nicholas Martin helped the Weyhill Electronic Organ Society to celebrate its 100th concert on 19th August in front of a capacity attendance. It was appropriate that Nick was the guest artiste as he had played for the Society’s inaugural concert in July 2002. The event was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Test Valley, Cllr. Chris Lynn and his wife Frances, who were able to experience at first hand the great entertainment on offer and the splendid atmosphere within the Club.
A number of pre-concert congratulatory messages were received, including from local MP, Sir George Young, Lawrie McMenemy and Nigel Ogden.
One significant fact emerged from the event - that only a dozen or so members of the audience had been present at the Society's first concert a mere eight years ago, clearly illustrating the need for constant and purposeful publicity in order to maintain viable attendance figures.
The Society’s next concert, titled Boys’ Night Out, featuring Chris Powell and Brett Wales, is being staged at The Lights theatre in Andover and, by way of showing appreciation for their efforts, the Club has invited past committee members and volunteers to join them for the evening.
The show takes place on the 16th September and a few tickets are still available from the Theatre Box Office (tel. 01264 368368), but anyone wishing to attend is urged to book promptly.
