Rye Bay Scallop Festival...

Posted: Sunday 7th February

We received the following from Richard Moore (Chairman of Friends Of Rye Wurlitzer) a few days ago about an interesting event that they are holding with the Wurlitzer at Rye College.  Sounds like an interesting night.  If you are in the area, why not join them?

"Two years ago I was approached by the Rye Rotarians to arrange an evening whereby their members could hear the Rye Wurlitzer.
Who else could I ask to assist than my fine friend and internationally acclaimed Theatre Organist " Mr Wurlitzer"  Len Rawle.
We called the event "For One Night Only" but it was enjoyed by all who attended ( in the end around 70 Rotarians attended from 9 different clubs in the region)
So, we thought we would arrange "For One Night Only - The Sequel" as part of the Rye Bay Scallop Festival 2010.
What do people do at  a "For One Night Only" event, well, I hope they will enjoy a very different musical experience entwined with a supper, good company and fun with a capital F.
Here is our menu of proceedings for Friday 26th February at Rye College.
7pm Guests arrive for Welcome drink and nibbles

7.30pm - Supper is served.  Coquille St.Jacques on a scallop shell accompanied by Cous Cous and Salad  served with a  glass of wine.  Followed by Gateaux and Cream.  Coffee and mints to conclude

8.40pm Our entertainment commences with Len Rawle rising maje stically on the Historic Rye Wurlitzer performing a Mini Concert / Demonstration assisted by myself where required PLUS accompany two short silent movies ( the main part of their job when the instrument first arrived in the country).  Len is a fine exponent of this very special technique and is worth coming just for this.

The finale has been produced at very little expense and will not only be different, memorable and quite unique to Rye but we hope highly amusing.

Carriages and other modes of transport at 10pm.

Tickets are £9.50  per person and in aid of Rye College.  Tickets are available  by telephoning 01797 222545 during college hours or evenings 01424 444058 or of course reserve via email to this address. Cheques payable to Rye College

Tickets will be limited to 100 for maximum enjoyment and are now on sale.

May I welcome you all to this very special event.

Best Wishes,

Richard Moore
