In it's current guise, the club was started in 1968 and moved to Shalford Village Hall, Guildford, Surrey in April 1976. We therefore reached a landmark of 45years in existence in 2013. Originally called West Surrey Organ Society, in 2007 it was decided to change the name to West Surrey Organ and Keyboard Club, thereby reflecting the increased popularity of the different types of instrument.
In 2015 we were lucky enough to gain sponsorship funding through two local charities, who support and provide grants to organisations that make a difference in the community, in our case by promoting and giving others regular access to music. We also had a large donation from one of our members. This all helped to reduce our losses for the year. We would suggest that any other club/society that needs financial support, should think about looking into music based grants that might be available in their area.
We want to spread the word about the wonderful concerts we present and our message to music fans who live in Guildford and surrounding areas, is :-please try and come to one of our concerts, we need your support to continue to provide these wonderful shows. We have some of the best keyboard/organ artistes available playing for us each month, a variety of music in differing styles is performed, we also have one or two concerts a year allowing members to play with other invited guest amateur players.
Our monthly concerts are held in the evening on the last Friday of the month, with occasional Sunday afternoon ones in the darker winter months. We meet at Shalford Village Hall [GU4 8JE], just south of Guildford. There is a free Car Park adjoining the Hall. Admission on the night for one of the professional concerts is £6.00 [£5 for members]. Refreshments are available during the half time interval.
Full details of the club and our concerts can be found at on our OrganFax page or on Facebook as West Surrey Music. Tel Contact: Brian Isom for more details on 01252 266270.
