Claudia Hirschfeld will be performing a Concert in the RC Cathedral Church of St Michael and St George (the RC Cathedral for HM Forces) in Aldershot on Sunday 12th April 2015 commencing at 4.00pm. Proceeds will be for the local hospice - the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. Her special guest will be a leading German tenor, Johannes Gross who will be making his England debut at this concert.
Further to the above, Andreas, Claudia's husband/manager, has said that it will be a special afternoon with Johannes joining her since the idea is to make a promotional video of the concert to have some material for the future to approach festivals, churches etc.in the UK. He stresses that it will NOT be made available for public consumption.
The tickets will be available from Tony Hyman at £10 each and my contact details are: Home phone 01252 328335; Mobile 07903575290 and email; email@example.com
The Cathedral will seat 500 people but of course there'll be columns and obstructions of various kinds so first come first served for the best seats. The seating is not the usual pews i.e. benches but individual wooden chairs.
The Cathedral was built in the late 1890s and it is reported that Queen Victoria laid its foundation stone which, we understand, is the only foundation stone Her Majesty laid of a church in her entire reign. The stone itself is still visible behind the High Altar outside and is in good condition. This place of worship fulfils three roles, a Memorial Church, Aldershot Garrison's RC Church and the Cathedra (Seat) of the RC Bishop to Her Majesty's Forces, Bishop Richard Moth.
