The Penistone Cinema Organ Trust is currently working on a new project to install the former Astoria, Purley, Compton organ in it's own premises. The premises will be the first dedicated Theatre Organ Heritage and Restoration centre.
Based on the outskirts of Barnsley only 1 mile or so from M1 junctions 37 and 38 the venture will provide an auditorium, containing the Compton, together with displays and items related to the history of the Cinema Organ in the UK. We have been given the following statement by Malcom Palmer of the Shropshire Theatre Organ Trust.
"All concerts that were planned by the Shropshire Theatre Organ Trust for 2011 have been canceled with immediate effect due to the closure of the former Buttermarket. This is due to circumstances beyond the control of the STOT. Should the situation change i.e. If the build should be either purchased or leased, an announcement will be made on Organfax. Due to a very generous donation from an anonymous supporter, SHIRLEY ORGAN and KEYBOARD CLUB is no longer closing down in December. We are pleased to advise that their next concert will be January 10th with CHRIS POWELL, and on the first Monday of the month thereafter. New members will be as always made very welcome.
