Formed in April 2002 on the initiative of local resident, Terry Trevett (the current Secretary), the Weyhill Electronic Organ Society is the only such club in the Andover area or indeed within the Borough of Test Valley. With the help of a small committee, the Society's inaugural concert, featuring Nicholas Martin, was held on 18 July 2002 and the event attracted a capacity audience, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Test Valley. Thanks to the hard work of the committee and a few willing volunteers, combined with the support and co-operation of several local organisations, the enterprise soon proved to be a worthwhile success.
The Society introduced the use of video projection equipment for concerts from May 2005 and all productions have since been enhanced by this excellent acquisition. Grants from 'Awards for All' (National Lottery), Hampshire County Council and Test Valley Borough Council helped the Society to achieve this improvement and members of the audience now have a clear view of the keyboards and pedals throughout every performance, thereby adding to their enjoyment.
In 2017 the Club was nominated for the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service - an award created by the Queen in 2002 to mark the occasion of her Golden Jubilee, recognising excellence in voluntary activities carried out by groups in the community. Further information is available on the Club's main website.
Concerts are usually staged on the third Thursday of every month at 7.30 p.m.
