I need advice in respect of appropriate speakers for a new VTPO which will have a 10 channel sound card installed. Anyone out there from the UK who has done a project like this and can recommend or advise, please contact.

Am considering two speakers in console, plus four external Behringer 2031A active monitors divided left/right channels and by voices, and two woofers for pedal bass. Would like to go wi-fi but it doesn't look feasible.

I am limited by available space in the room and don't want an overly complex system as some shown on various VTPO websites. I am more into the ultimate organ sound than delighting in the sophisticated electronics!

    Hi there,
I built a VTPO just last summer using MidiTzer as the "pipework" and relay. I haven't changed many of the default sounds and have to say I think it sounds pretty good. There are probably many purists out there who could nit-pick til the cows come home, but I reckon a very good sound can be achieved without having spent thousands on multiple sets of speakers. My organ can be heard on youtube if you search spudweiser0. The playing's not too grand as I'm not an organist (am more of a pianist), but although the sound is poor quality I think it gives a good impression of how good a sound you can achieve. I have only 1 speaker at the moment (like you- limited by space and had to make sure it fitted inside the console...for now). I'm actually more impressed than I thought I'd ever be with just the one and think even only 2 could sound fantastic. I reckon the soloution you've come up with sounds grand for getting a great organ sound. One piece of advice tho- regardless of your decision, make sure you get something that will do the bottom end justice! I personally like a nice heavy bass sound and without it, I think an organ is not an organ. Of course the crisp highs and rich mids are very important too, but those are easier to achieve without any hassle.
I know this is all very sparse and purely opinion based (I'm not an expert and don't claim to be). Trial and error is the best way forward- don't go all out on the most expensive solution first- start small and build up as you go!
    Hope this is some help!
    Kind regards,
    Paul

Thanks Paul. I did send you a direct message (The Taff) on Youtube and you have made the connection!

I totally agree with you about the need for a strong bass reproduction and plan to build a product called a "housewrecker", which is basically three speakers in a tower configuration within a cabinet. This will act in place of the two subwoofers and take up less space.

I have previously admired your console (and your playing expertise, in spite of what you say) and my console is being based upon a three manual ex-Wyvern theatre organ in white/gold but with conventional tabs for the 36 ranks along a modified stop rail.

    Best wishes

    Jeremy
