    Hi Keith,

First of all, congratulations on your choice of instruments. You have the potential for an absolutely super setup with both organ AND expander!

I have linked up the Roland Fantom to an Atelier 900c and the results are quite awesome....... I'm hoping the midi setup on your 60SL will be similar to the 900c. (Maybe Chris or Marie Powell can confirm this?)

On the basis that they ARE similar.....:- in the midi page of the 60SL, make sure the transmit channels are set to 1, 2 & 3 (I know this sounds obvious, but the 900c defaults to different channels for some unknown reason!?!). Check that the PC change is set to ON. The next bit is the MSB/LSB messages :- If you want the sounds from the card (toiab), set MSB to 85, LSB to 32 and then put in the number of the sound patch you want to pick (e.g. 1-64).
When you've done this, save that into one of your Atelier registration buttons.

If you want to access the USER section of your Fantom, the MSB is 85, the LSB is 0, followed by (1-64). The PRESET section is accessed by MSB 85, LSB 64, then (1-64). This must also be saved to the Atelier registration buttons.

Please note Keith, that I'm making the assumption that your 60SL has the same midi spec as the 900c in order for the above instructions to work.... I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. If it does work.....you are in for some serious fun! (I haven't been on this forum for ages because after linking the Fantom up to my EL90, I can hardly find the time for anything else!!!).

    Enjoy!

    Regards,
    Nicola

    Hello Nicola.
Have just hooked TOIAB to Roland 60SL
As you suggested with the settings all worked.
    Thank you very much.
I cannot get the Fantom volume to go throught the Roland pedal at the moment.
I am using another pedal in the meantime.
Will the sound volume usually work through the pedal????

    Hi Keith,

I'm pleased to hear you have it "up and running".

The problem re lack of expression control is one that is affecting a few of us, and I'm trying to get to the bottom of it... As the Fantom works perfectly with volume control on other organs (such as Yamaha and Technics), I'm assuming the problem lies with the Atelier.

Having said that, a fellow Atelier enthusiast has added a Yamaha expander to his Atelier, and it DOES work with volume control (!!??!!). He has kindly sent me his "midi set-up" on a memory stick which I will be trying as soon as possible. I'm hoping that I have missed something, and by loading his settings up, the problem will be solved.

All I can say at the moment Keith, is watch this space, and I'll get back to you soon, hopefully with some answers to your problem.

Kind Regards from "Chilly, wet and windy" Scotland,

    Nicola

The swell pedal control on the TOIAB...........John and I are awaiting a call any day from Reg to confirm (or not!) that the swell pedal control can be made to work by adjusting something in the Fantom itself.
We can work single patch mode on the upper manual of our Technics GA1 from the swell pedal and my digital classical organ will control the full works on one of its two swell pedals.

Have you got the latest set of instructions from Reg?...........How to edit sounds from the theatre organ card. Its very easy once you make the first move.

    Hi Folks,

Re expression problem :- Just thought I'd sign in to report I'ts still a "work in progress". Hopefully I will get more time at the end of the week to give it my full attention.

Thanks for the tip about Reg ,Stephen, but I'm finding it easy to edit and save all performance patches. I think it helps that I've had previous experience of Roland expanders, although I can imagine it would be daunting at first for somebody that has not had any prior experience. Reg used to do workshops on the XR, but that's not very helpful for Keith in New Zealand! If Reg is doing a set of editing instructions, it might be useful if they could be sent on to Keith....

Keith, I was wondering if you had any Roland "support" where you are? If I can't sort this Expression problem that we all have, I'm going to contact Roland UK technical support and get the bottom of it once and for all. I have found them to be helpful in the past, and I will keep you all posted.

Another thing I thought I'd mention:- Do either of you have the software disk (Fantom Editor) for editing it on computer? I got this disk when we bought one of our XR's new - I didn't get it with my second-hand one. While I haven't used it myself yet, it does make everything large, clear and easily accessable for editing purposes on the computer screen. If anyone that doesn't have this disk, and would like it for themselves, just let me know, and I'll be happy to send it on.

    Regards

    Have not any support really.
I do have the disc and have managed to put the fantom through Computer.
It is a bit hard to follow but still trying.
I think I will just have to keep using seperate conrol pedal.
Look forward to hearing more.I enjoy reading all the comments.
    Cheers. keith.

  10. Keith, I've never actually connected the Fantom to the AT-900C, but just wonder if it might be worth a call to Paul Solt in kapiti at Kingdom Music? (04) 298 8222

Good luck with it all, hope to maybe see you out there next march.
