Happy New Year to one and all.

With all the festivities seeming already well behind us, and hopefully the bulk of the bad weather out of the way (very optomistic) we look forward to enjoying the start of our concert seasons in 2010.

I am searching for ideas to keep our members enthusiastic about attending our club at this time of year. We have just had our New Year Party yesterday (23rd Jan). This is one of our big events of the year and is always a fantastic evening. Our evening was made complete by superb entertainment by Mr. David Harrild and his Tyros TRX set up (Little plug for you and Musicland David!) We also have a "Grand Tombola" which is also a highlight on this evening.

Because of the usually poor weather and thus low attendance in February we decided this year to start our concert season in March. So after the Christmas break we now have a social evening and our New Years do in January, and two more social evenings in February. Although our social nights are generally well attended later in the season I am looking for some ideas to make this time of the year a little more fun to encourage members away from their televisions and down to the club! We don't want to include any more themed evenings as we already have several in our programme for the year. So.......any fresh ideas folks?

Changing the subject......... I heard the mention of Tyros 4!!!......surely not? I am sure there will be, but not already please!

    Hi Phil,

Nice to hear things are going well with your social nights. I find it interesting to hear what other club's do re social evenings.

Our members are very loyal when it comes to turning up on concert nights, but don't seem to be interested in social nights. For instance, we have our annual supper dance in March, and while we usually get roughly 80 people for this event, less than half that turn up are actually members! :-( So, any fresh ideas from other clubs would indeed be welcome.

    Tyros 4? Already?????!!!!!.........give me strength.....yawn!...z,z,z....can't keep up....no doubt it'll be "SOOOOOOOO much better than the Tyros 3"..... :- /

    Hi Nicola

Just a little bit more feedback regarding our efforts to promote the club at the Robert Wolfe concert. We did have a couple look in on us to see what we were about. I also took two phone calls from people wanting to sell their old organs and asked if we would advertise them at the club on their behalf!!! Tongue in cheek I suggested if they came along they could ask around themselves...And they might like the club, want to join then keep the organ...... Well you can't say I didnt try........Oh and they also had never heard of the club.

So it is going to be an uphill struggle to increase our membership. But I wont roll over. This year I am going to make some sterling efforts to get more people on board.

    Hi Phil,

You're quite right to encourage the people to come along to advertise their organs for sale themselves. We sometimes all have to resort to sneaky tactics to get people through our doors. ;-) Short of dragging people off the street, it can be difficult to bring our Organ Clubs to peoples attention, despite all the advertising we all do for our respective clubs.

I'm happy to report there has been a slight increase in our membership this year. I think Tony's excellent performance in the shopping centre paid off. When people stopped to listen, captivated by what he was playing, an army of eager-beaver committee members were ready to pounce with flyers and complimentary tickets. So I think your Robert Wolfe concert will have been a nice boost to your club, and possibly more beneficial than costly newspaper ads that people often ignore anyway.

Yes, the battle continues for us all......onwards and upwards!

    Regards, Nicola
