    HI,

As a dance organist, I always face the audience/dancers, they're not bothered what I am doing and I need to keep a check to see if I am in sequence! lol

I have noticed, however, that at some organ concerts, organists are now facing the audience too, sometimes without video projection. Is there any reason for this? All they can see is a head bobbing up and down and the lower part of two legs!

I thought the idea of having a screen was to enable the audience to see more, but I would have thought that facing the audience sort of knocks back on that idea? Plus, some organists don't exactly 'smile' when playing! lol

    Cheers,

    Cameron.

Good point! I've been facing for 2 years now with the Roland AT-900C. It works well with the European style 'gap' between the console bit and the pedals. I have raised the bench for logistical reasons (a. long legs and b. so that I'm more conspicuous!)....

To be fair, the rather more old fashioned wooden cabinet organs would probably look stupid if swung right around, although they can work very well on an angle.

Also, it goes without syaing that the traditional theatre organ console is a 'back to the crowd' job and always will be. Good to have a variety.

As Cameron says, there are 2 important points - one being a good mirror or projection system needs to be used when facing in concert for the crowd to see what's happening at the business end and a charismatic face/smiling etc will always win over a miserable pug or gurn! I rest my case!! he he

For organs with front facing speakers they generally would need to face away from their intended audience but if possible facing the audience is probably more friendly.

Cheers and long live live music!
