Does anybody listen to the OE?
It was on Thursday nights at 10 and now on Tuesday nights at 9.30.
For me it has lost all the glitter and excitement that was on offer when Robin started the programme many years ago. One had Theater & Electronic, now other than Hammond there are a lot of church classical organs being used to replace those glorious sounds of the past. Nothing against a classical organ but it seems to have taken over the main bulk of the programme.
It is difficult to be loyal to the program week by week but the hand wavers around the off switch.

Hi.
The producers of The Organist Entertains decided quite a few years back that programme was not going to promote the electric organ any more and were no longer going use that format.I went to watch Glyn Madden’s Concert for Japan a few weeks back, it was mentioned that The Organist Entertains would not even promote this concert in their regular weekly concert announcements section of the programme.
I think the only way we are now going to be able to listen to a programme with a good selection of music is on OrganFax or Keyboard Capers.

So it has as well as ATOS Radio and shortly Organfax Radio.
There is really no reason why the BBC could not do the same.
Right back to the Reith era one found the BBC dictated what the licence payers would be allowed to hear.Posted 1 year ago # -
Back in around 1998, many of us organists received a circular from the BBC asking if it were possible for us all to consider the inclusions of more 'pop' and 'up to date' type music for the show, in order to try and reach out to a younger audience. Within a few years, a new Programme Controller etc at Radio 2 brought with it some new protocols.... One is that (from what I understand) the evening content was to try and include only 'acoustic' music in its format for its 'specialised' programmes. That's why you will only hear the odd electronic or valve track on the TOE.
Personally, I think that it is very sad that the 'overall' content of the show has changed like this, it was certainly one of the things that got my interest fired as a kid..... That said, I guess that we must all take our hats off for it being such a long running and successful show regardless of this matter.
Organfax Radio should (technical problems not withstanding!!) return at midnight tonight. Brett and I are doing our best to try and present a show with great variety that will hopefully appeal to a younger crowd with a bit of fun and banter along the way. We are also going to start a campaign over the coming months to kindly ask our listeners who play themselves, to feel free to send some material in for possible inclusion. That invitation goes out as ever to 'all' the top-liners too - the more the merrier!
As for the BBC, I guess we have to accept that in short, they have their own agenda and that's why the likes of Brett and I, Alan Ashton and others are doing just what we do!
Cheers,
Chris

I was,for years,a regular listener of the organist entertains, but the BBC has changed the slot and I find myself yet again, slightly bemused.
The content for me was fine-I found the balance between classical and popular organ music OK-but then again,I like most types of music(the exception being some of this dreadful rap-which gives me a headache!)
I m all for change but just for the sake of it, in many areas, seems to be the current vogue and the result can be negative not positive..Posted 1 year ago # -

Next week John Leeming talking to Nigel about the Troc at the Troxy.Posted 1 year ago # -
One would expect programmes to be decided well in advance of the transmission date therefore unlikely that comments on this forum would influence the programme makers. However since my first comment there improvements in the level of entertainment.
This week's interview with John Leeming about the Troc & Troxy was interesting and illuminating and would say even to the average listener or the person who tuned in for the first time.
Next week requests!
Things are looking up.
My thanks to Nigel and his producer.Posted 1 year ago # -
And I thought That I was the only one who thought O/E had got very boring, same organs (theatre) and same names every other week.
i can remember when this programme was on for an hour every week with a great selection of all kinds of organ and players...Now I very rarely listen to it..So come on lets all boycott it until it returns to its former format..Lets hope Organfaxradio and Organ1st radio never go the same way!!Posted 11 months ago #
