Hi Chris, Don' t want to sound pedantic but we need to be clear as to the difference between overall volume and expression. The overall volume is controlled by the output knob on the Fantom and the volume controls on your amplification and as far as I know are not pedal controlled. The expression pedal is what I think you probably mean and many people use a Midi Solutions black box. This is needed if your organ (keyboard) only transmits the expression pedal data on one midi channel (usually channel 16). Roland Ateliers and Yamaha ARs do this but the OrlaGT9000 for example sends expression on each midi channel so does not need the black box. The Midi Solutions Black Box can be set to map the expression pedal data from channel 16 on to any other midi channels thus allowing you to control the expression of all channels with the expression pedal. If your BehringerFCB1010 can be programmed to do this it should work fine.

Hi. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to control the overall volume of the Fantom and the TTT samples using a midi volume pedal, such as the Behringer FCB1010 ?

Many thanks,

Hello Keith! Nice to hear from you. :-)

Greetings from wet, cold and windy Scotland! (no more snow as yet, thank goodness!).

Thanks for letting us know about your Orla - I think you have many hours of pleasure ahead of you with that - AWESOME!!! I have heard that Paul's DVD's are excellent, so I think he will keep you on the right track regarding getting to grips with the Orla.

I'm also glad to hear you are still keeping the Baldwin and the TOIAB though...
(I get very sentimental about some of my older keyboards, and can't part with anything either).

Do keep us posted on how you get on with the Orla. I think there will be a few of us here keen to hear all about it. Enjoy, and have fun!

Best regards,
Nicola

Hi Paul,

I have a pair of Rokits but do not use them with my current organ (Roland AT800) as it sounds best just using the organ. This was not the case with my previous Roland AT90SL or Yamaha AR80.

The Fantom has outputs A and B. Output A is the default stereo output and when you create a performance (registration) you can place each sound (patch) between left and right for output A. What is interesting is that you can instead set the sounds to go to output B and position them between left and right. You then use the A output to produce sounds in front of the listener and the B output to produce sounds at the rear of the listener. I did this after a visit to Scarborough Fair where the percussion is at the side of the auditorium and behind the organist.

It is a bit of a fiddle to get everything balanced if you do not have four matched amplified speakers but I managed to have piano to the back stage right and tuned percussion to the back stage left.

All good fun!

Hello all,

Keith, congratulations on getting your Wersi. I was sorry to read of the negative feedback you have experienced about the Wersi. Do NOT let that put you off though. Undoubtedly, some people may have had a bad experience, but this can be said of any manufacturer... If it works fine for you, then that's all that really matters. I believe Wersi have received some stick in the past, but equally, there are thousands of happy Wersi owners out there who haven't encountered a single problem, and are very happy with their chosen instruments.

As to how it is working midi - it's hard to tell without it in front of me, but it sounds like it's selecting some performance registration, AND single patch registrations..... Ideally, you want it so that it picks just the performance (user or card) registrations, rather than just one single voice at a time. Like you say, a manual may unlock the secrets of how to acheive this. I'm a great believer in fiddling around until I get it sorted, but it doesn't always work :-)

From what I has heard, I thought Wersi was ok for transmitting expression, but don't quote me on that. Hopefully someone may come to your rescue there if they read your post. Have you come across anything in the midi section of the Wersi which indicates either INT/EXT EXP (internal/external expression)? I'm just guessing that it could be something simple like that not set correctly, which in turn may stop you from getting exp control. Again, it's just a long shot, and I am not familiar with wersi. Fingers crossed, someone will read your post and be qualified to help. Hope you enjoy having fun with it in the meantime. :-)

Paul, nice to hear of another enthusiast that has the Rokits! I take the outputs of the Fantom (outputs A) to the inputs on my EL90, then the EL90 outputs go to the Rokits via a mixer. This way it give me total expression control. I'm using a Yamaha MG102 mixer to "boost" the signal from my EL90, as the EL has not got the most powerful of outputs (-11db I think, whereas Wersi for example, operates at 0db, I believe, so therefor, the signal out is much stronger). Your Technics may have a much stronger signal out than my EL90, so I think you should be ok. Thanks for sharing your youtube clips with us. I thought both tracks were excellent. Enjoy your Rokits, they really do bring out the best in the Fantom.

Regards

Nicola

Hello all,
Just wondering if any of you use your organs speakers alongside your Rokits. I noticed that the Fantom has two pairs of audio sockets. Can you use both (eg. one for the organ and one for the speakers) or is there a danger of blowing the organ's speakers if you do? The problem is, if I just plug in external speakers to the Fantom, I can't control the volume via the organ's expression pedal. In short, do I connect the Rokits to the organs output, or the Fantom's output?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes,
Paul

P.S. As a manual for the Penta would be helpful, I e-mailed an online retailer who advertised manuals for Wersi, including the Penta. I received in reply what can only be described as a tirade against Wersi and their instruments, telling me among other things that they had gone bust three times, that many of their instruments were home made and badly soldered, parts were difficult to get and that no reputable technician would touch them. In fact, although I hadn't heard of the Penta till I saw it advertised, I researched Wersi and Pentas before I bought it, including viewing a YouTube video, and was aware of all the problems. But it was cheap, the 61 note lower keyboard was an attraction, it was factory made and, availability of parts permitting, my technician, who is great at improvising, would be O.K. with it. Besides which I have a couple of Yamahas (organs, not motor-bikes) in the garage as back-up.

I don't know why he couldn't have said that they don't stock the manuals and that he was sorry for wasting my time by advertising something they don't stock. If I had been a first-time organ buyer, I would have been devastated to receive such a put-down of my new toy.

As it is, I'll give it a go - it's 'so far so good', as the chap shouted as he passed a first floor window, having fallen off the top of a tower block. The main reason why I've hesitated over a heavier instrument is that it has to be taken upstairs, which is quite an undertaking. But if it has to be..................
