I attended two concerts recently at the Royal Hospital School-Holbrook.
The organ there is possibly one of the finest instruments I have ever had the pleasure of listening to-from it`s very quiet ,ethereal sounds to the almost breathtaking loud ones!
The first of the two concerts was given by Nigel Ogden-what a very accomplished performer in many genres he is.
The second by the equally famous and extremely talented Nicholas Kynaston.
The two concerts where quite different in that Nigel included some lighter more well known pieces in his performance.
I didn`t know any of the programme that Nicholas played, but that is not in any way to diminish the ability of this fine classical organist.
As we sat listening to a piece which involved a section of rising crescendo, there was almost a wind that carried the bombarding bass notes down the chapel. After the final lengthy chord in this piece the natural reverberation of this magnificent building could be fully appreciated.
I went with my friend a little early for the concert to appreciate the surrounds of this marvellous Suffolk location, overlooking the river.
Cricket was being played and the scene was a typical English spring evening, all around the trees and plants were blossoming into life anew.
A marvellous aspect of tranquility, miles away from the hustle and bustle of city life and the somewhat dubious negative acts that we seem currently to hear so much about almost everywhere.
No canvassing politicians,no tele,no election speculation- just the sounds of willow on leather and the birds singing innocently-ah.........pure magic.
Come dusk, the light began to fade and we made our way to the chapel.
Two truly memorable events-I look forward to the next with eager anticipation.
Jennifer Kersey.

Hi, Just thought i'd put up a post to say hello. I have been in to Theatre Organs and Virtual Theatre Pipe Organs for a few years now. I am currently converting a 1928 3 Manual Wurlitzer 240SP (white and Gold) Theatre organ console to midi, to run with the Hauptwerk Software and Milan Digital Audio Wurlitzer Samples. I am also keeping the console running on the electro pneumatic action, so it will still need a blower to function, so i'm not destroying the console... just adding to it. If i can be of any help to anyone needing advice about Virtual Theatre Organs, or anything to do with the audio set-up / arrangement or midi systems, feel free to ask away as i will be monitoring this forum from now on.

All the best,

Chris

I am delighted to see that the new organ fax has turned the spotlight on a legend wurlitzer performer,Phil Kelsall.
I consider him to be one of the very best performers, even today the mans playing is so inspiring, conseqently my stepson wishes to learn the organ.
I visited the tower when I was ten and I fell in love with the kelsall sound,I then decided to learn the organ,I play for a living now.
a credit to the tower and also a salute to Mr blackpool!!

Hi there,

We've been very fortunate to be able to organise more concerts at the Blackpool Opera House, in this, it's 70th year!

The first is on March 4th at 2.00pm with Robert Wolfe.

Work continues on the organ to keep it playing and work has finally started to re-install a Xylophone, the original being removed many years ago. In the near future, the regulators (bellows) in the organ will need attention which is going to prove a difficult job because the organ will have to be un-playable whilst this work is carried out!

Hope to see some fellow 'OrganFaxers' there!

Regards to all,

Cameron.

Hi folks,

In case anyone is interested I am about to embark on a project to have a pipe organ at my home having got the financial means to do this.

Well, I say pipe organ but it will be mainly a Makin electronic but with a wind blown Diapason providing 8, 4 and 2 pitches. In an unexpected "twist" to a standard 2 manual church spec there will be melotone stops provided by some post war Compton generators. The pipes, speakers etc will cover the full length of the one wall of what should be the dining room!!! I hope to also have Midi facility to have extra sounds if money allows. This will be covered completely by radiator style grilles. The projected spec will be as follows:

A very exciting project indeed! Im strictly a church organist that plays in theatre organ style on a church organ so am not fussed about Tibias etc. However, I am partial to the sound of a melotone so have decided to include this!

Not content with just this, my long suffering partner Michelle will have to endure this in the dining room and my Compton 352 electrone in the lounge!!!!!

I intend to provide photographs in time once I get things rolling!

Chris Thompson.

J. Collar on "VIRTUAL THEATRE PIPE ORGAN (vtpo)"

I need advice in respect of appropriate speakers for a new VTPO which will have a 10 channel sound card installed. Anyone out there from the UK who has done a project like this and can recommend or advise, please contact.

Am considering two speakers in console, plus four external Behringer 2031A active monitors divided left/right channels and by voices, and two woofers for pedal bass. Would like to go wi-fi but it doesn't look feasible.

I am limited by available space in the room and don't want an overly complex system as some shown on various VTPO websites. I am more into the ultimate organ sound than delighting in the sophisticated electronics!
