With help from a previous Committee member, we have researched our past history. We are able to say that:- West Surrey Organ Society in it's current guise, was started in 1968 and moved to Shalford in April 1976. Although it did have origins from another club that was started in the early 60s, also in the Guildford area. We therefore reached a landmark of 45years in existence in 2013. In 2007 it was decided to change the name to West Surrey Organ and Keyboard Club, thereby reflecting the increased popularity of both electronic instruments played by professional Artistes and amateur players alike.
We meet at Shalford Village Hall, just south of Guildford and the club is run by a friendly dedicated committee. There is a free Car Park adjoining the Hall.
Our Concert evening is normally on the last Friday of the month (except for December when it is on the second Friday) starting at 7.30pm with a break for refreshments and a Raffle. We have a high stage so everyone has a good view of the Artiste. During the darker evening months, we will have one or more of our concerts on a Sunday afternoon - details will be shown in our concert listing.
For our first 3 concerts of 2015, we were lucky enough to receive a sponsorship grant award from Surrey Get Music Going Trust. Their mission is to bring people together from all walks of life, who all share the same passion - music! To date over £120K has been donated.
We enjoy listening to all types and styles of music by top professional keyboard Artistes, but also encourage new up and coming players as well. We also have 'amateur' concerts where some of our members/guests provide the entertainment.
Membership is £6 Per Annum plus £5 for every Concert. Visitors are most welcome and are given temporary membership on the night for £6.00. Refreshments are £1 per person.
A free monthly newsletter is available by e-mail or on the night of a performance.
