In
2003 a number of enthusiasts met monthly in Oakham as a self-entertaining
group. As this increased in popularity, it was decided that it
should have an identity and the Organ and Keyboard Music Club was formed.
Members
attending the group made a donation at each visit, and it was later
decided that when sufficient funds were raised we should put on a
professional concert. In order that this could happen earlier, a member of
the group made a substantial donation. In spite of a lot of hard work and
comprehensive advertising, the first concert in May did not receive the
support that it deserved.
Although disappointed, but not disheartened, a new venue was found in
Market Overton, an attractive old village a few miles from Oakham. The
village hall, its location and facilities, has been ideal for us and it is
our belief that this has contributed to our success.
More donations followed, giving us the financial confidence needed to
arrange concerts for the rest of the year and to book artistes of the
highest standard, a policy that we hope to be able to maintain in the
future.
All visitors are welcome.
