The club began in
the mid 1970's as THE BRIDPORT ORGAN SOCIETY. It's aim was not to
provide a venue for regular organ concerts, but more for a gathering of
like-minded people to chat and mix socially. |

|
Church organists and music teachers provided musical interludes, sometimes a teacher would bring along an up and coming young pupil to play, either solo or duet. The audience was usually around twenty people, sometimes much less, often depending on the weather. Eventually a very basic committee was formed with a simple constitution. It was some time later that a national organist would be booked for two concerts during the year. This became a 'Big Night Out' and drew an increased audience! |

Some of the earliest organists were Trevor Bolshaw, Eileen Thorpe, Anita Gay, Lloyd Lewis and Tim Flint. In the 1980's a committee was set up to take care of the duties, publicity, stage settings, printing. A constitution for all members and a much-improved sound system was an accepted part of the BRIDPORT ELECTRONIC ORGAN CLUB |
|
The club is thriving these days with membership of around 150, and growing. Twelve concerts a year with all top rate organists. So, if you are visiting this beautiful Jurassic coastal area, come along to one of our concerts and have a great evening's entertainment - we'll even throw in coffee and biscuits! We look forward to seeing you at a future date - you will be sure of a warm welcome. |
