Bay Organ & Keyboard Society

FORMERLY THE GRANGE & DISTRICT ORGAN SOCIETY

Paul Gregson with some of our committee members

The Society was formed in 1973 by enthusiasts who gathered in each other's homes and decided to expand their hobby.  Helped by the then Furness Organ Society, rules were established, a home found at the Netherwood Hotel, and meetings held the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.  Organ dealers brought in organs and taught the basics of playing.  Visits to pipe organs were shared with the Furness Organ Society and tea dances held to raise funds.  Eventually the Society bought its own instrument with money borrowed from members.  Membership grew (although remaining small with a maximum membership of 51 in 1985) as word spread across South Cumbria and North Lancashire.

WHERE

The Society has now moved to a new venue - St Paul's Parish Hall - situated in the centre of Grange, with easy access for disabled people/wheelchairs, and near a large car park.  Grange is situated on the edge of the English Lake District National Park, a charming Edwardian resort set between the Lake District fells and Morecambe Bay.
